The PDSC has reviewed the quantity and current sailing ability of Open Skiff sailors, plus the resources the club can provide for the safety of all of our sailors both in the AM and PM sessions. We have also considered the past seasons JD support, outcomes and its development.
As such the Committee is writing to advise to our members that we alter this seasons racing programme such that the Open Skiff Racing will now take place immediately after morning training, or any case start at 11am. By doing this the less experienced Open Skiff sailors will be encouraged to participate in the racing forming a bigger fleet & increasing competition. Courses will be set closer into and around the Club and be of approx.1hr duration - Trapezoidal course. We hope this will inspire the newer Open Skiff sailors to push on and continue into this racing level. It may also lead to Open Skiff sailors teaming up and sailing in JD fleets in the afternoon. Vice Commodore Stuart Sloss has recently obtained 3 x JD's from down south that could be utilized, plus the Club has invested in the restoration of an original JD by the kind and generous efforts of our club person Mr Rob Depiazzi. These are significant efforts to support Junior and Intermediate sailors.
Whilst the above will result in no official Open Skiff racing in the afternoon, any sailors from the Open Skiff or other sailors wishing to develop into the next fleet will be welcomed to start with the JD fleet in the afternoon club races and sail the same course. This will provide avenues for kids to continue sailing various junior classes, but also help the PDSC provide sufficient safety coverage over the entire afternoon sailing programme.
This will be in effect from this Saturday 21/11/20
