Annual Special Events
Opening Day
Traditionally the season is open on the third Saturday in October. Members are encouraged to bring a plate of afternoon tea for the invited guests, dignitaries from other clubs and members.
Busy Bee
Held the Sunday morning prior to Opening Day, all members are encouraged to come to the club to help with general tidying up, cleaning and gardening duties.
Christmas Treat/Family Fun Day
Held on the last Saturday of the season before Christmas, this is a wonderful afternoon to invite your friends and family to the club. The Family Fun Day is also a day to enjoy the surroundings of our club, play some games and go for a ride on a boat you don’t normally sail. Santa arrives early evening delivering presents to children that have been donated by their parents. We also present the State shirts to those sailors competing in any National Championships over the Christmas/New Year period.
Life Members and Legends Day
Life Members and past Legends of PDSC are celebrated on this day usually held late January/early February with an afternoon tea provided by the members of the club. Life Members receive complimentary drinks for the duration of the days racing.
Memorial Days
There are several memorial days throughout the season that recognize cherished members that are no longer with us. These days occur through the season and act as a day trophy sponsor for all classes. They are the FF Nickels Memorial Day (commemorated on Opening Day), Brad Burt Memorial Day, Margaret Depiazzi Memorial Day, Jim Vance Memorial Day and the Neville Flynn Memorial Day. In addition, several classes have memorial races specific to them Basil Wright Memorial (Javelins), Cade Mathews Memorial (Cherubs), Bill Osborne Memorial and Triad Rudder (International 14), Trevor Stranger Memorial (International 14) and the Anketell Memorial (International 14).
Catered Meal Evenings
Catered or casual meals are held after presentations in regular intervals throughout the year, usually coinciding with a Club Championship Heat. Tickets can be purchased from a number of ladies within the club in the weeks leading up to the meal. This is an important means of fundraising and members are encouraged to attend.
Junior Presentation Afternoon
Presentations for the Mudlarks, O’pen Bics and Jay-Dees are held on a Sunday afternoon in mid-May. All members are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring a plate of food for afternoon tea. There is no attendance fee and no need to reserve tickets.
Senior Presentation Night
This is the most formal event on the PDSC calendar held on a Saturday night towards the end of May. Presentations are made for all senior fleets in the format of a sit-down formal dinner. Tickets are essential and are available towards the end of the season from the Management Committee.
